Chapter 1766: Full-level Boss Dressed As a Peasant Girl
Chapter 1766: Distraught Zhang Shi
Meng Han supported Tao Shi and looked up at Shu Yu. "Sister Shu Yu, did my uncle really die?"
"Uh-huh. Jiang Kuanyu tormented your father for two days and two nights. Since he couldn't extract the whereabouts of the Xuanyuan Sword, he naturally suspected that your uncle was lying to him. So, he went to interrogate him again. I'm not sure about the specifics of the interrogation, but the doctor's final diagnosis was that he died of fright."
Meng Han gave a bitter smile. She didn't have much of an emotional connection to her uncle from the Tao family, especially since he had harmed her father. Hearing the news of his death didn't evoke strong emotions in her at the moment. Still, it felt unpleasant in her heart.
Doctor Mi arrived, examined Tao Shi's pulse, and sighed afterward. "She's been under too much stress. Let her rest well. After she wakes up, you should comfort and support her. I'll prescribe some soothing medicine for you."
"Thank you, Doctor Mi."
Shu Yu was about to help Tao Shi back to her room to lie down when suddenly, from the next room, came Zhang Shi's furious voice, "It's you! It's you who killed the father of my children! You killed him. He was perfectly fine, and we were leading a peaceful life in Tao Village. But no, you had to buy a house for the Tao family in the county. Look what's happened now; we've encountered bandits. You killed my husband, and now you're trying to shift the blame onto the Tao family. He's dead, and you're ignoring us. How can you be so malicious?"
Everyone was stunned by her illogical train of thought. What on earth was she saying? So, Meng Xiaoshu helping the Tao family buy a house had somehow become his fault? This argument was too far-fetched.
But Zhang Shi didn't care. Her husband was dead, leaving behind three children. Her elder sister-in-law family wouldn't support them anymore. If her elder sister-in-law divorced Meng Xiaoshu, she would have to go back to her own family, eating their food and living under their roof. How could she continue to live like that?
Just the thought of all this overwhelmed Zhang Shi.
However, her chaotic and unreasonable complaints were useless. Seeing that Meng Xiaoshu's energy had clearly waned after speaking so much, Meng Pei immediately signaled a few maids who had followed her in. They quickly escorted Zhang Shi out of the room.
Zhang Shi kicked Tao Qin, cursed, "You're a good-for-nothing. Your father's murderer is right in front of you, and you're just standing there?"
Tao Qin was already injured, and Zhang Shi's kick landed right on her wound, causing her to scream in pain. Zhang Shi, upon seeing her reaction, berated her for being useless.
Her loud and disruptive behavior was truly grating. Shu Yu thought, no wonder Tao Qin had such a personality. Her biological parents were like this—one cowardly and afraid of death, the other unreasonable. How could children brought up by them be reasonable?
Unable to tolerate it, Shu Yu walked out and struck Zhang Shi's neck with a palm, immediately knocking her unconscious.
Alright, the whole world fell silent.
Shu Yu instructed the two maids, "Take her back and tell the Zhang family that if they don't take proper care of her, they shouldn't expect the Meng family to be polite."
"Yes, Miss Lu."
The two maids directly dragged Zhang Shi away.
Shu Yu turned her head to look at Tao Qin. The latter trembled and seemed to have suffered quite a bit during her time at the Meng family. As a result, she could better grasp the situation than Zhang Shi. She immediately stood up and staggered out of the room.
Meng Xiaoshu wearily closed his eyes and then looked at Meng Pei. "Elder brother, you've worked hard."
"Alright, you should rest and recover from your injuries. You don't need to worry about what happens next."
Meng Pei helped him lie down and asked the others to leave before closing the door.
As he looked at the already sleeping Meng Xiaoshu one last time, he sighed. Then he turned to Shu Yu beside him and said, "Your uncle is just too naive. Jiang Kuanyu is so malicious, yet he didn't say a word to divert his attention away from me. If he had simply said that the sword had been in my possession ten years ago, Jiang Kuanyu's focus might have shifted, and he wouldn't have tortured him like this."
