Chapter 1749: Full-level Boss Dressed As a Peasant Girl
Chapter 1749: Laborers Reemerge into the Light
Shu Yu and Ying Xi quickly stepped forward to lend a hand. Batch by batch, weapons were carried up. Shu Yu roughly estimated that, along with the shipment from the night before, more than half of the weapons had arrived.
Lu Wu wiped his sweat and smiled at Shu Yu, saying, "Miss Lu Xiangjun, all the weapons are here. Lord Xia said to send half of them up first to General Huang."
Shu Yu nodded. These weapons were sharp and all brand new.
Although General Huang had led troops here to suppress bandits, this wasn't a large-scale war of guarding the borders. Hence, the number of soldiers he brought along wasn't large. As for weapons, they had always been scarce, and high-quality new ones like these were even rarer.
Rarely did they discover such a massive armory of weapons, so seizing the opportunity, General Huang readily accepted them.
As for whether the soldiers under his command could keep these weapons in the future, it depended on how General Huang negotiated with the emperor and the Ministry of War.
Anyway, General Huang was pleased. First come, first served. It wouldn't make sense for the weapons he gained to be taken back. Handing over the other half of the weapons to the black market was already quite generous.
Shu Yu tallied the inventory, and as she walked inside, she realized that the laborers who had transported the weapons out were all from the original black market labor force.
They must have spent a long time underground without seeing the light of day. Now that they were outside, they seemed a bit dazed as they looked at the bright sunlight above them. But soon, their excitement took over, and some of them greedily bathed in the sunlight.
How long had it been since they last felt the sun's rays? Underground, they only knew endless toil; even taking a break was a luxury, let alone basking in the sun.
They truly didn't want to stay in that dreadful place any longer.
Shu Yu smiled at them, then turned to Lu Wu and said, "Let me take care of these weapons. You should go back to the county office and rest. There's more work to be done."
Lu Wu hadn't slept since they left the black market. It wasn't sustainable to continue like this. Lu Wu waved his hand, "It's okay. I'm full of energy now. Miss Lu, I'm not afraid to admit it—I no longer hear the roar of beasts, I don't have to worry about being sent to the dueling arena constantly, and I don't have to feel miserable as my brothers leave one by one. To me, this feels like a dream. I never imagined there'd be a day I'd leave that place. I've always thought that living one more day is a blessing. So now, I can't bear to sleep. I want to experience this completely different life a bit more."
He feared that if he slept, he would return to the past.
After Lu Wu finished speaking, those around him all had the same expressions on their faces.
Clearly, everyone felt the same way.
Shu Yu didn't know what to say for a moment. She sighed in helplessness, "Although that's true, now that you've left the black market and have something to look forward to, you should take care of your health. If you're tired, rest and sleep. Otherwise, you won't be able to keep up."
Lu Wu thought for a moment, "You're right. After I help Miss Lu send these weapons out of the city, I'll go back and rest."
Shu Yu nodded, and Lu Wu signaled the laborers behind to arrange the weapons properly before sending them out of the city.
The abandoned mansion wasn't far from the city's outskirts, making it convenient to transport the weapons from here.
By now, it wasn't early anymore, and many people had gone to the county office. However, there weren't many people outside in this area. The commotion at the city gate last night scared the nearby residents; they didn't dare to venture out. Hence, the streets were quiet. They reached the city gate without any hindrance.
