Chapter 854: The Peasant Girl’s Splendid Manor
Chapter 854: The Bamboo Pit Viper Strikes (3)
Mo Yan took the water pouch and handed it to Liu Tinglan. “Sister Lan, I’m going to drain the venom from your wound now. It will hurt a bit, so bear with me and drink as much water as you can while I work.”
Liu Tinglan accepted the pouch without hesitation. “Yan Yan, go ahead. I can handle it!”
Mo Yan nodded firmly and wasted no more time. She placed her hands around the cross-shaped wound and applied pressure, neither too light nor too heavy. Dark, viscous blood began to flow from the wound again, even darker and heavier than before.
She continued pressing for about half a quarter of an hour until the flow of toxic blood ceased. Then she untied the thin cord at the acupoint, allowing the pressure in the veins to push out any remaining contaminated blood from Liu Tinglan’s forearm.
This process wasn’t enough to fully expel the venom. Mo Yan tied the cord again and repeated the process, pressing the wound until no more tainted blood emerged. She alternated between tying and untying the cord three times. Finally, when the blood flowing from the wound returned to a healthy red hue, she checked Liu Tinglan’s pulse. Confirming that the majority of the venom had been removed and the residual toxins wouldn’t pose a threat, Mo Yan removed the cord completely and washed the wound thoroughly with purified spring water.
The spring water, with its detoxifying properties, worked from both inside and outside as Liu Tinglan drank and had her wound cleaned with it. To further reassure Liu Tinglan’s parents, Mo Yan pretended to administer an antidote pill by giving her a vitality-boosting medicine. She also applied a layer of powdered sanqi to the wound.
The others watched Mo Yan’s meticulous treatment with a mix of surprise and admiration. While the method seemed novel, every step was logical and effective. Seeing Liu Tinglan’s improved complexion and the fading discoloration around the wound, they were convinced this was a technique taught by the renowned Physician Du.
Gratitude swelled in their hearts for Physician Du’s mentorship and for Mo Yan’s medical skills. Without her, they might have faced a tragic outcome that day.
Madam Liu clasped Mo Yan’s hands, tears streaming down her face. “Yan Yan, thank you! Thank you for saving Lan’er…”
“Auntie,” Mo Yan replied gently, “Sister Lan is my closest friend. I’m just relieved I could help. If you want to thank someone, thank Brother Shen. Without his quick thinking and selfless action to remove most of the venom, I wouldn’t have been able to treat Sister Lan so smoothly.”
Mo Yan deliberately shifted the credit to Shen Ji, subtly emphasizing his role. Whether driven by a sense of duty or his feelings for Liu Tinglan, his actions had proven him to be reliable. She wanted to ensure he left a good impression on Liu Tinglan’s parents.
As expected, Madam Liu’s gratitude extended to Shen Ji, despite the suspicion in her heart about his intentions toward her daughter. She repeatedly thanked him and warmly invited him to visit their home so they could properly express their appreciation.
Shen Ji humbly declined but eventually agreed to visit at a later date, unable to refuse their earnest insistence.
After such an incident, the children were too shaken to continue their outing. Everyone packed up their belongings and headed back down the mountain. Before nightfall, the Han family, carrying fresh bamboo shoots gifted by the Mo family, departed for the city in their carriage.
Initially, Liu Tinglan’s parents intended to take her home as well. However, Liu Tinglan, harboring unresolved emotions, insisted on staying at the Mo family’s residence under the pretense of recovering more conveniently. Despite their reluctance to trouble the Mo family, her parents eventually relented after much pleading from both Liu Tinglan and the Mo family.
Shen Ji accompanied the Liu family carriage back to the city. Before departing, he seemed on the verge of speaking to Liu Tinglan but ultimately left without saying a word, their gazes lingering on each other until the door closed.

That night, Liu Tinglan, weakened by residual toxins, fell asleep early without eating dinner. Her immune system was still working to combat the venom, a normal reaction. Anticipating a potential fever, Mo Yan prepared two doses of detoxifying medicine based on remedies she had learned.
For convenience, Liu Tinglan was moved to Mo Yan’s room. After ensuring Liu Tinglan’s temperature remained stable through the night, Mo Yan sighed in relief and slipped out to the area where her six spirit beasts rested.
She poked at the red python’s head and gritted her teeth. “I told you to find a harmless little snake to scare them, just to test whether Brother Shen was trustworthy enough for Sister Lan. But no, you had to summon a bamboo pit viper! You nearly killed Sister Lan with your recklessness. If I hadn’t had the spring water and the know-how to neutralize the venom, she’d have died because of my so-called cleverness!”
The red python hissed indignantly, flicking its tongue in protest.
“Yan Yan, Little Chi didn’t summon the bamboo pit viper! That viper showed up on its own!” the snowball-shaped spirit beast chimed in, translating the python’s grievance.
Though the python’s sorrowful tone didn’t register with Mo Yan, the snowball’s words made her realize her mistake. She had wronged the red python...
