Chapter 845: The Peasant Girl’s Splendid Manor
Chapter 845: Spring Outing and Jealousy (2)
If it weren’t for the conservative nature of women in this time and space, who only dared to steal glances when walking down the street, Mo Qingze felt that there would have been many women following him home by now.
Noticing that his daughter had spaced out, Mo Qingze gently tapped her head with the end of his brush and chuckled, "Even when grinding ink, you’re distracted? What kind of schemes are you plotting now?"
Mo Yan stuck out her tongue and flattered him, "Oh, father, I wasn’t plotting anything! It’s just that you’re so handsome, it makes me proud, and I lost focus for a moment!"
Mo Qingze couldn't help but laugh and gave her a playful flick on the head, "You dare joke with me? The older you get, the more unruly you become!"
Mo Yan held her forehead and pretended to be wronged, "But father, it’s the truth! Don’t you see all the young ladies and wives secretly watching you when you walk on the street?"
Hearing this, Mo Qingze sighed in helplessness, "No matter how good-looking one is, it’s just skin deep. Eventually, we all grow old. Yan’er, you shouldn’t judge people by their looks, and you shouldn’t focus too much on your appearance while neglecting your inner cultivation."
Mo Yan nodded seriously; she agreed with her father’s words. However, people often tend to be shallow, and it was common for them to judge a person’s inner qualities based on their outward appearance.
Mo Qingze, however, wasn’t convinced. He glanced at her and asked, "Did you not first notice that young man because of his looks?"
Mo Yan gave an awkward smile, then raised her small hand and replied seriously, "Father, that’s not true at all!"
Not wanting to continue the debate, Mo Qingze didn’t pursue it further. Instead, he picked up his brush and continued writing the invitation. As he wrote, he casually said, "Next time you want to see that young man, just tell me directly. As long as you’re not meeting in secret, I won’t stop you. But don’t use Zhen’er as an excuse."
Caught red-handed, Mo Yan’s face flushed bright pink. She quickly dropped the ink block and covered her face, running out of the room. She could handle teasing from friends or sisters, but being called out by her own father was something she couldn’t bear.
Watching his daughter flee in embarrassment, Mo Qingze shook his head with a light chuckle. He lowered his head to clearly write the name "Xiao Ruiyuan" on the invitation.
On March 22, the Mo family’s orchard was in full bloom, with white apple blossoms, pink peach flowers, and purple grape flowers filling the air. Countless bees buzzed around, busy collecting nectar. Colorful butterflies flitted about, adding to the liveliness. Occasionally, the sounds of hens clucking echoed in the air, while five large farm dogs, now fully grown, patrolled the orchard, sniffing around cautiously to prevent any intruders from sneaking in and stealing chickens or eggs.
Looking down over the entire orchard, the vibrant flowers were a sight to behold, and the air was filled with their subtle fragrance. It was a scene too beautiful for words.
At the highest point of the orchard, a lively group of more than ten people had gathered, enjoying the beautiful spring scenery. Several animals playfully ran around, causing the bees to scatter nervously, worried about being disturbed.
"Ha ha, this place is wonderful. We should come here every year at this time to relax and enjoy the beauty," Master Liu, who most enjoyed this peaceful, rural life, said with a smile. He had taken a day off work and brought his wife and daughter along.
Han Zhiyun agreed, "This is a great idea. You can’t see such natural beauty in the city. Even the brightest, most precious flowers in a greenhouse can’t compare to the elegance and tranquility of this place."
Mo Qingze smiled, "You’re always welcome to come. When the fruits ripen in the fall, it would be a real treat to pick them yourselves and taste the fresh harvest!"
"That’s a great idea! My niece missed out last year, but this year she won’t!" Liu Tinglan responded enthusiastically, as if the pretty blossoms before her had already transformed into sweet, delicious fruits.
