Chapter 1655: Full-level Boss Dressed As a Peasant Girl
Chapter 1655: Need Help?
Everything happened too fast, almost in the blink of an eye, Shu Yu and Meng Yunzheng's cooperation was seamless.
Meng Qi stared at them, still dumbfounded by what just happened. He hadn't even reacted in time.
It was understandable that his cousin acted so quickly, given his known skills and capabilities. But he didn't expect his future cousin-in-law to be just as formidable. She was the first to take action. Throughout their journey, she rarely spoke, and Meng Qi even worried she might slow them down.
Now, he realized he was the one who nearly became a hindrance.
Shu Yu didn't notice his gaze; she slowly exhaled and lowered her arm.
The hidden arrow on her wrist was originally prepared by Meng Yunzheng for the tiger-hunting in exile. She had kept it with her all along, and she came even better prepared to this dangerous place.
It had been a perilous moment just now. She almost aimed the arrow at the man's neck. They weren't sure if he was a bandit or not, and if she killed him, explaining their actions later might be troublesome.
Fortunately, Meng Yunzheng acted swiftly, preventing the man from making any sound and knocking him out.
"Let's go up and take a look," Shu Yu called out to Meng Qi, and they proceeded forward.
Meng Yunzheng was now squatting down to examine the man's condition. The man's face was unfamiliar, and his wrist was injured. He was dressed in ordinary peasant clothes with no distinctive features.
But when they searched him, they found weapons on his person, not just one.
At the moment, it seemed he was not a good person.
Meng Yunzheng looked up and made eye contact with Shu Yu.
Then, he removed all the knives and darts from the man, tore off his belt, and securely tied his hands and feet. He also gagged him to ensure he wouldn't cause any trouble. Satisfied with the situation, Meng Yunzheng stood up and clapped his hands.
Meng Qi whispered, "Brother, what should we do now?"
"This courtyard does have a problem. The rumors of ghosts are probably fabricated by people. This man was trying to blow the whistle, so there might be his accomplices nearby, but we don't know where. Let's be careful and search this courtyard thoroughly."
"Alright."
Meng Qi nodded immediately and then pointed at the man lying on the ground, "What about him?"
They needed to be cautious during the search, and they couldn't take the man with them, but leaving him alone was also worrisome. If he woke up and escaped, what would they do?
Meng Yunzheng looked around and saw a room to the right.
"Put him inside."
He and Meng Qi carried the man into the room and used his own clothes to tie him securely to a pillar. After ensuring he wouldn't make any noise, they left.
As they continued forward, their movements became even lighter.
After passing a small courtyard and entering the backyard, they suddenly heard the sounds of a scuffle.
The three of them exchanged glances and quickened their pace.
As they approached, they saw several people fighting inside an abandoned house.
Though they called it a fight, it was actually three people ganging up on one.
The lone man had already been stabbed several times and was gasping for breath, struggling to keep his footing. In a desperate attempt to protect himself, he picked up a nearby chair leg to fend off the attacks.
Meng Qi whispered, "Brother, do you want to help?" But help which side?
As Meng Yunzheng was observing, the man being surrounded retorted in a desperate manner, "Killing me won't do you any good. I've already written a letter informing my comrades about the bandits' whereabouts."
