Chapter 788: The Peasant Girl’s Splendid Manor

 Chapter 788: Compromise (1)

The eve of the lunar New Year passed amidst the lively sound of firecrackers, deepening the festive atmosphere. While many families in the village were still busy calculating how to prepare for the celebrations, the Mo family, lacking nothing, made a simple trip to the city. They purchased incense, firecrackers, and essentials like oil, salt, soy sauce, and vinegar, completing their preparations. Life for them remained as ordinary as ever.

The next day brought clear skies and bright sunshine. Mo Yan sat in the courtyard, basking in the warm sunlight as she worked on hemming her father’s new clothes.

Beneath her feet lay a large sheepskin rug pieced together from wild goat hides. The Four Beasts sprawled lazily across it, their tails flicking in contentment. Eyes closed, they soaked in the peace and warmth of the winter day.

After finishing the last stitch, Mo Yan stretched her stiff neck and picked up the newly sewn clothes. She was about to take them to the study for her father to try on when Da Ni stumbled in, her voice choked with despair.

“Yan, Yan Yan! Quick, go into the city and call a physician . My brother, my brother is in trouble. We need a physician immediately. Yan Yan, drive the cart—my brother, he’s coughing up blood! Wuuu—”

Da Ni’s words were incoherent, but Mo Yan clearly caught the term “coughing up blood.” Alarmed, she exclaimed, “Tie Tou’s health has always been good. How could he suddenly start coughing up blood?”

Da Ni was weeping uncontrollably, unable to explain further.

Coughing up blood usually indicated internal injuries. Mo Yan suspected Tie Tou had either fallen or suffered a serious blow. Taking him into the city by cart might worsen his condition due to the jolting. She decided to hitch up the cart herself and bring a physician back from the city.

Just then, Mo Qingze arrived and overheard the conversation. His face turned pale, and he quickly said to Mo Yan, “Yan’er, take the medicinal pills and go to the Wu family first. I’ll head to the city to fetch Physician Du.”

The pills Mo Qingze mentioned were made by Physician Du from medicinal ingredients Mo Yan had obtained from her space. These included pills for clearing heat and detoxification, treating common ailments, and life-saving elixirs made from high-grade ginseng for emergencies.

“Father, please hurry and fetch the physician . I’ll take the pills over now.” Mo Yan set down the clothes and agreed without hesitation. She quickly told Da Ni to wait, then rushed to her room. Entering her space, she retrieved three life-saving pills and filled a water pouch with spiritual spring water.

By the time Mo Yan returned to the front yard, Mo Qingze had already set off with their horse, Da Hongzao. Meanwhile, Xin’er and the others had also heard the news and insisted on going to the Wu family with her.

“Tie Tou! My son, wake up. Please, wake up… I’ll agree to anything you want, anything, as long as you open your eyes! Wuuu—”

“Brother, wake up! Don’t leave us! Please wake up!”

As the group hurried to the Wu family’s house, they heard Wu Shi’s heart-wrenching cries from outside, accompanied by the sobbing of San Ni and Shi Tou.

An ominous feeling gripped everyone as they rushed into the courtyard and into Tie Tou’s room. There they found him lying on the bed, his face ashen and his eyes tightly shut. Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth, staining the pale pillow and bedding with dark red blotches that struck a chilling contrast.

Mo Yan had no time to console the grief-stricken Wu Shi. She quickly approached Tie Tou and felt his pulse, which was faint and erratic—a dire sign.

Although Mo Yan had been studying medicine, her training was limited to a few months. She couldn’t determine the exact cause of Tie Tou’s condition or whether he could hold on until her master arrived. Without hesitation, she fed him one of the life-saving pills she had brought. When he couldn’t even swallow, she opened the water pouch and used spiritual spring water to help him ingest it.

Watching Mo Yan’s swift actions, Wu Shi gradually stopped crying, her gaze fixed intently on Tie Tou, as if afraid that even a blink might make him vanish before her eyes.
