Chapter 778: The Peasant Girl’s Splendid Manor

 Chapter 778: A Clear Perception (3)

Mo Yan, in high spirits, casually tossed a snowball at the "Four Beasts," hitting Xiao Hua right on the body.

Xiao Hua, always eager to play, thought its owner was inviting it to a game. With a loud "howl," it pounced toward Mo Yan.

Mo Yan, startled, turned to run, but how could she outrun Xiao Hua, with its four legs? In no time, Xiao Hua tackled her from behind, pinning her in the snow. The weight of the beast nearly knocked the air out of her, and she ended up with a mouthful of snow.

"Yuck, yuck, yuck! Stinky Xiao Hua, get off me!" Mo Yan coughed up the snow as best as she could, her body trapped under Xiao Hua's weight. She struggled to shout for the beast to move.

"Hahaha—so funny! This is just... oh—ah—cough, cough!" Liu Tinglan, watching her best friend in such an uncharacteristically helpless state, laughed uncontrollably. But the next moment, she was ambushed by Mao Tuan, who leapt at her like Xiao Hua had done. The furry creature knocked her down into the snow, and she choked on a mouthful of it, starting to cough violently.

"Haha, Mao Tuan, well done! I'll give you roast suckling pig tonight!" Mo Yan stood up and, pointing at Liu Tinglan, who was now buried in snow, laughed without any grace.

But Mo Yan had been too quick to gloat. Mao Tuan, having just been promised a roast suckling pig, dashed off from Liu Tinglan’s body and leapt excitedly onto its owner.

This time, Mo Yan ended up on her back, her breath almost knocked out by the weight of Mao Tuan. The impact on her waist would definitely cause her pain for the next few days.

In the end, Mo Yan had to make Xiao Hua and Mao Tuan run a hundred laps around the yard as punishment, and they were banned from dinner.

"Haha, Yan Yan, they’re just too fun! Without these two, how much less joy would we have?" Liu Tinglan, laughing to the point of tears, looked at the two playful beasts on the ground begging for their punishment to be lifted. She almost wished she could take them home and raise them herself.

Mo Yan, while holding the ears of the two troublemakers, scolded them, and then replied to her good friend, "Sister  Lan, don’t flatter them, or their tails will be straight up to the sky."

Liu Tinglan, initially unconvinced, now looked at the two creatures wagging their tails and squinting their eyes, clearly pleased with themselves. She marveled, "I told you before that the animals in your house are almost like spirits. You refused to admit it, but no matter how smart wolves or tigers are, they can’t be as clever as these!"

Mo Yan smiled without answering. She was afraid that admitting it would frighten her dear friend.

A few days ago, while staying at the Mo household, Liu Tinglan had been in low spirits. Not wanting to worry her best friend, she confided in Mao Tuan, who was the one she felt closest to. She shared her dissatisfaction about the Du family’s marriage arrangements and her fondness for Shen Ji.

Mao Tuan, having learned this, passed the information to Xue Tuanzi, who then relayed it to Mo Yan. Mo Yan, understanding her friend's concerns, was unsure how to help her, as one wrong move could lead to unintended consequences.

Through the open window of the study, the playful scene of the two bright young women and the beasts in the snow was clearly visible to the person inside.

Xiao Ruiyuan, standing by the window, appeared to be watching Chu Heng and Mo Qingze play chess, but his full attention was on Mo Yan. When he saw her unguardedly knocked down by Xiao Hua, his heart leaped in his chest, fearing she might get hurt.

However, as he watched her laughing with the beasts, carefree and full of joy, the image of her happiness etched itself deeply into his heart, filling him with warmth and longing. He wanted nothing more than to preserve this beautiful moment forever.

Just as Xiao Ruiyuan was lost in this thought, a figure appeared beside him—it was Shen Ji, who had been sitting off to the side reading.
